Which CILT (UK) course is the right level for me?

Awards – At Level 3 there is an option to study an award. These are a short, one unit course, focused on specific areas of logistics and transport. They can be used as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, to raise awareness of specific areas. They are also an ideal starting point for those moving into this area for the first time or for staff training. We offer the following level 3 awards:

We also offer the CILT(UK) Level 1 Award in Logistics and Transport.

Certificates and Diplomas – Certificates and Diplomas contain a number of units and provide comprehensive coverage of your area of specialisation as well as business aspects such as management, finance and marketing.

CILT(UK) Level 2 Certificate in Logistics and Transport – This course is designed for new entrants to the logistics and transport sector. It is suitable for front line and supervisory staff working in the industry.

CILT(UK) Level 3 Certificate in Logistics and Transport, CILT(UK) Level 3 Certificate in Global Logistics, and CILT (UK) Level 3 Awards  – These course are designed for team leaders, new supervisors or aspiring managers. It is also recommended for anyone making a career change. This is an open access qualification, although learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge of logistics and transport operations. As well as an awareness of the integrated nature of supply chain activities.

CILT(UK) Level 5 Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport – This course is designed for professionals already working within the logistics and transport sector. It is most suited to those who are aspiring to middle management positions in specialist functional areas, such as, supply chain management, transport planning or transport operations. The qualification is open entry and as such is also suitable for graduates in other disciplines who are entering the sector for the first time. Although learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge of the logistics and transport industry at a managerial level.

CILT(UK) Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport – This course is aimed at managers aspiring to move to more senior strategic roles within the logistics and transport sectors. The qualification is open entry and as such is also suitable for graduates in other disciplines who are entering the sector for the first time. Although learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge of the logistics and transport industry at a strategic level.

CILT (UK) Level 2 Certificate in Logistics and Transport

Four units are required. Two units are mandatory and two are optional selected from the non-mandatory options given.

CILT (UK) Level 3 Awards

At Level 3 there is an option to study an award. These are a short, one unit course, focused on specific areas of logistics and transport. Which IWFM course is the right level for me?

The following provides a brief overview of who the IWFM courses are aimed at for each level. Click on the course title to view further information. If you have any questions concerning which course would be best for you, please GET IN TOUCH.

IWFM Level 3 Certificate in Facilites Management, IWFM Level 3 Award in Facilities Management– This course is designed for first line managers or supervisors in the facilities management sector, or people who are new to the industry. This is an open access qualification, although learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge of facilities management operations.

IWFM Level 4 Certificate in Facilites Management, IWFM Level 4 Award in Facilities Management – This course is designed for those at an operational management level or who are aspiring to these roles and want to stretch and develop knowledge and capability. Although this is an open access qualification, learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge or facilities management operations, have achieved the Level 3 Certificate or have responsibility for managing some area of facilities management.

IWFM Level 5 Certificate in Facilites Management, IWFM Level 5 Award in Facilities Management – This course is designed for managers and supervisors in the facilities management sector, or those who are new to the industry. Although this is an open access qualification, learners would benefit from having some prior knowledge or facilities management operations, have achieved the Level 4 Certificate or have responsibility for managing some area of facilities management.

Certificate or Diploma
We advise that you undertake the Certificate before considering the Diploma. This is because the Diploma qualification is an extensive course and can take well over a year to complete. By taking the Certificate, which is shorter, you can achieve certification quicker. You can then make the decision to either take further units to make it up to the Diploma, or to progress to the next level of your studies.

IWFM Level 3 Award in Facilities Management

Two mandatory units are required to be completed.

IWFM Level 3 Certificate in Facilities Management

Four mandatory units are required to be completed and optional units to the value of a minimum of seven credits.

  • Introduction to Facilities Management (mandatory)
  • Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability in Facilities Management (mandatory)
  • Customer and Stakeholder Relations in Facilities Management (mandatory)
  • Specification and Procurement of Facilities Management Supplies and Services (mandatory)
  • Budget Management of Facilities Management Operations (4 credits)
  • Project Management in Facilities Management (5 credits)
  • Health and Safety Responsibilities in Facilities Management (5 credits)

IWFM Level 4 Award in Facilities Management

One mandatory unit is required to be completed and optional units to the value of a minimum of six credits.

  • Overview of Facilities Management (mandatory)
  • Managing Health and Safety in Own Area of Facilities Management (6 credits)
  • Understanding Leadership and Management in Facilities Management (6 credits)
  • Understanding Facilities Management Projects (6 credits)

IWFM Level 4 Certificate in Facilities Management

One mandatory unit is required to be completed and two optional units, selected from the non-mandatory options given.

  • Managing Health and Safety in Own Area of Facilities Management (mandatory)
  • Understanding Leadership and Management in Facilities Management
  • Understanding Facilities Management Projects
  • Understanding Financial Management in Facilities Management

IWFM Level 5 Award in Facilities Management

One mandatory unit is required to be completed and optional units to the value of a minimum of six credits.

  • Organisational and Facilities Management Strategy (mandatory)
  • Managing People in Facilities Management (8 credits)
  • Providing Leadership and Management in Facilities Management (4 credits)
  • Energy and Utilities Management and the Impact on Facilities Management (3 credits)

IWFM Level 5 Certificate in Facilities Management

All of the five units provided by us are required to complete this course.

Can I study online with The Business School UK?

Yes, we have our own Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) where you can study our courses – these comprise qualification courses and short CPD courses.

Will I get tutor support?

All qualification courses are support by virutal expert tutors who are not tied to a geographical location, which means we can provide you with the best specialised support when and where you need it regardless of subject area.

What courses can I study online?

We currently provide online Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) courses Levels 1 to 6, and Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) courses Levels 3 to 5.

How do I get advice and guidance on which course to study?

How do I create an account on the Virtual Learning Environment?
How do I pay for a course?

We have a number of payment options for you – further details can be found HERE:

  • By PayPal – you do not need a PayPal account, but can pay by debit or credit card.
  • Invoice to employer – just contact us HERE to arrange.
  • Modular payment – we can in arrange for you to pay by module on courses which have more than one module.  Again just contact us HERE to arrange.
  • Military, resettling and retired military personnel can use their ELC for many of courses and the SLC for all our courses.  Find details HERE.
How do I enrol on a course?

There are two ways to enrol on a course:

  • Pay by PayPal to get instant access to the course. Follow the information in the Quick Start Guide.
  • Self enrolment which is available if you are paying by another payment option. Follow the instructions in the second section of the document: Account and Self Enrolment.

You can enrol on a course at any time and get started straight away.

How do I use the Virtual Learning Environment?

Our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is intuitive to use. We also provide a number of guides, including a Complete Site Guide and these can all be found on our VLE under the Help tab on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Access our VLE HERE.

How long will an online course take to complete?

The following are average timescales that the following course levels may take to complete if you’re working on the course regularly. These averages are based on working on your course for an average of 4 hours per week.

CILT(UK) Courses
Level 2 certificates: 3-6 months
Level 3 awards: 1-3 months
Level 3 certificates: 3-6 months
Level 5 professional diplomas: 6-9 months
Level 6 advanced diplomas: 12-18 months

IWFM Courses
Level 3 awards: 1-3 months
Levels 3-5 certificates: 3-12 months

How can I progress?

You can study and learn with us Levels 1-6 for CILT qualifications and Levels 3-5 for IWFM qualifications.

We can also offer you advice on progression routes to higher education or in in more specialist areas.

How is assessment carried out?

Our online courses are usually assessed by written assignment. Higher level courses may include a project and lower level courses may be assessed via short answer questions. Two attempts are allowed for all assignments and tutor feedback is provided where a re-submission is required.

By undertaking assignments, projects or short answer questions, you avoid the stress and challenge of doing exams. It also means that you can do the assignments at any time you wish, and anywhere to suit your work commitments and personal circumstances. Our assessors will always give you clear feedback, and support any need for a further resubmission. It is worth noting that our success rate is 100%!

How much do online courses cost?

We provide courses for both public and UK military personnel.

Military Courses
We provide a number of different options for military courses. Our Military Open Courses can be studied by anyone in the Military. However, we also provide dedicated, accredited trade courses, which take into account your military training, and in most cases are shorter courses – we called these Mapped Courses. These dedicated courses can be taken if the correct military certification is held.

Many of our tutors are ex-military and hence we fully understand the operational challenges that are faced by our military students. What face to face courses do you provide?

We provide a number of face to face courses across our range of topic areas.  If you wish to discuss arranging a face to face course for a group, please contact us.
